NAIT Celebrates Road 55’s Rob LeLacheur with Prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award

Rob Lelacheur - Road 55

At Road 55, storytelling is at the heart of what we do — and this year, our own story took an exciting turn. Founder Rob LeLacheur has been recognized with NAIT’s Distinguished Alumni Award, celebrating his entrepreneurial success, commitment to community, and long-standing connection to NAIT.

“It’s humbling,” Rob says. “NAIT played such a big role in my career, so to be recognized in this way means a lot.”

From Connection to Creation

If you ask Rob to describe himself in one word, he’ll say “connector.”

“I love bringing people together, whether it’s to collaborate, do business, or just help each other,” he says.

That philosophy has guided him through every chapter of his career, from launching the St. Albert Leader newspaper in 2011 to founding Road 55 in 2017. While the Leader was a community success, changing times in journalism forced a difficult closure in 2015.

“It was a setback, but it pushed me to think differently,” Rob says. “Not giving up on the dream — that’s my greatest professional accomplishment. Being an entrepreneur is a challenge every single day, but I’ve never been more optimistic about the future.”

Giving Back to NAIT and the Community

Rob’s connection to NAIT goes far beyond being an alumnus. Over the years, he has mentored students, judged business competitions, served on program advisory committees, and provided opportunities for students to gain real-world experience at Road 55. Several NAIT grads are now part of the Road 55 team.

“I love telling everyone I’m a NAIT grad,” Rob says. “It’s incredibly rewarding to help instructors, support students, and connect with other business leaders.”

Outside of NAIT, Rob has been an active volunteer for over 20 years — serving on committees for economic development, the Chamber of Commerce, and the arts and heritage foundation in St. Albert. As a former WHL defenceman and Memorial Cup champion, he’s also passionate about the role of sports in building community, co-organizing the Road Rage Street Hockey Tournament for the past decade.

The Value of Relationships

Rob credits his approach to relationship-building to his father, Rick, who was deeply involved in the community.

“From a young age, I saw how much value came from getting involved and building real connections,” he says. “That’s something I’ve carried through every stage of my life and business.”

Looking Ahead

Whether it’s producing a brand story for a client, mentoring the next generation, or helping organize a community event, Rob’s focus remains the same — connection.

“It’s all about relationships,” he says. “That’s where great things start.”
